Dublin Actor Headshot Photography
At Roger Kenny Photography I have been working with actors for over 20 years. Constantly evolving and keeping headshots fresh and relevant. My studio has got great natural light but I also use continuous light similar to a film set or stage. I also use large Profoto soft boxes and beauty dishes. Everyone is different and every actor who comes to the studio will spend time with me figuring out which type of light suits their complexion and colouring the best. I also have a selection of hand painted backdrops made by myself with a variety of shades and textures which I feel really add to the experience and the results of your headshot session at the studio. All photographs are taken with the highest quality GM Sony lenses which in my opinion give you beautifully crisp and sharp images that really make you stand out.
The headshot above is taken using natural window light with various reflectors. The headshot below is taken a large Profoto Octa softbox with some fill reflectors. Both backgrounds were handmade by myself in the studio. Each headshot I take is truly unique. Every year I try to adapt and evolve my style.
Why do actors need headshots and how often should they be updated?
Actors need modern and up-to-date headshots because they serve as their first impression in the industry, helping casting directors see their current look and suitability for roles. An outdated headshot can be misleading, causing confusion or even costing an actor potential opportunities. Since an actor's appearance can change over time—due to aging, hairstyle changes, or weight fluctuations—keeping headshots current ensures accuracy and professionalism. Additionally, trends in headshot photography evolve, and having a fresh, high-quality image that aligns with industry standards makes an actor more competitive. A well-maintained headshot showcases an actor’s commitment to their craft and increases their chances of landing auditions. When I chat with agents they will often not send their clients headshots because they are old and no longer are a good representation of that actor. So be warned update your headshot regularly. It shows your ambition and professionalism as well as being your logo, your font and your brand. Your headshot is your most important marketing tool.
